Andiamo a Siena

Last week the summer students at SRISA went to Siena. Hundreds of students from nine different university programs and their professors boarded buses from Florence to the scenic Tuscan town. There the group had guided visits to the Piazza del Campo (Main Square), Duomo Cathedral complex and other sites.

The magnificent complex of the Cathedral of Siena, the Duomo, houses a series of some of the most important monuments in Italy. With more than one million visitors every year, the Cathedral without a doubt represents the fulcrum of the entire complex, while other significant elements include the Crypt, the Baptistery and the Museo dell’Opera, all part of the impressive mass formed by the “Duomo Vecchio” (Old Cathedral), and the “Duomo Nuovo” (New Cathedral).

After spending the day in Siena, the group went to have dinner in the Florentine hillside suburb of Fiesole. It was a wonderful day for the students to discover a new city and meet new friends.
